Oct. 14-18 Happenings

Tuesday night will be the annual Fall Concert in the Graettinger Gym beginning at 7:00. We hope to see you all there as the public is welcome and admission is free.

5th Grade


Objectives:
  • Establish classroom procedures/expectations
  • Record “Four by Four”
  • Rehearse Pg. 5-6
Warm-Up:
  • Pg. 6 “Notes in Review”
Music Rehearsal:
  1. EE Pg. 5 #8, 10, 11, 12
    1. Reinforce Posture
    2. Breathing
    3. Conducting beat/pattern
    4. Foot tapping
    5. Tonguing

Middle School


6th

Objectives:
  • Rehearse major scales from EE Book
  • Reinforce counting accuracy
  • Identify melody and harmony
Warm-Up:
  • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, Ab #1, 2
  • Chromatic
Music Rehearsal:
  1. The Year of the Dragon
    1. Isolate sixteenth note passage in saxophones
    2. Isolate percussion at ending with brake drum
    3. Perform full runs and discuss shaping and articulation
  2. A Celebration Overture
    1. Isolate middle 3/4 section
    2. Rehearse transitions into 3/4 section and back to the D.S.
    3. Bring out low brass and tenor sax line throughout
  3. Falcon Fanfare
    1. Isolate passages with multiple accidentals
    2. Isolate moving clarinet passages
    3. Focus on middle section with upper woodwinds for note/rhythmic accuracy

  • Rehearse concert pieces, focusing on rhythm and listening

  1. Silver Star March
    1. Continue increasing performance tempo
    2. Continue focusing on low brass for bass line melody section
    3. Bring out pick-ups into new sections
  2. At the Crossroads
    1. Reinforce upper woodwind counter line at the end
    2. Isolate percussion for balance
    3. Focus on rhythmic accuracy in first 1/3 of the piece
  3. Christmas Music for Winds, distribute and read through

High School


Objectives:

  • Begin reading new pieces
  • Complete Jazz Band Auditions
