Feb. 1-5 Happenings

MS Band

5th Band
  • Continue working Concert Bb Scale
  • Distribute new music for Spring Concert and begin playing

6th Band

  • Continue working Concert Bb, F, Eb, Ab, and Chromatic Scales
  • Rehearse Western Fantasy and Forward March focusing on rhythmic accuracy and rest counting

7/8th Band

  • Continue working Concert C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A, and Chromatic Scales
  • Rehearse Forrest Gump and The Pink Panther focusing on intonation, articulations, and rhythmic counting accuracy

HS Band

  • Continue working toward performing full runs of all of our Pops Concert music
  • Spend time working trouble areas in each piece including: Cantina Band in John Williams, Friend Like Me in Disney, and Letter B in Navy Hymn
  • Students begin working on your videos for the concert performance
  • Try to add a new pep band piece
  • 4 Seasons Fundraiser begins Monday

Jan. 25-29 Happenings

MS Band
5th Grade
  • Continue learning Concert Bb Scale (Students look up fingerings at home)
  • Work through Essential Elements Pages 12-13
  • If we get through those pages we will look at some new sheet music for the Spring Concert

6th Grade

  • Continue working our Concert Bb, Eb, F, and Ab as well as Chromatic Scales in band
  • Look at new sections in Western Fantasy, identifying challenging rhythms and working on transitions between different parts of this piece
  • Continue reading through Forward March, with special attention being paid to the tried quarter note and eighth note rhythms in the piece

7/8th Grade

  • Continue working Concert C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, and D as well as Chromatic Scales, we will begin playing the scales with different rhythms
  • Work on The Pink Panther, focusing on the melody in the clarinets and the flute, as well as the swing section at the end
  • Work on Forest Gump, focusing on maintaing a good sound at the softer dynamic levels, and accurate counting in the percussion parts
  • Continue reading Jefferson County Overture, focusing on articulations
  • Possibly hand out some new music to read through

HS Band

  • Continue playing through all of the major scales
  • Attend Conference Honor Band on Thursday (Jan. 28) in Armstrong
  • Work on Soul Man and Gonna Fly now for pep band, focusing on rhythmic accuracy
  • John Williams, work on transition areas, continue focus on the Cantina Scene, work on dynamics in Jaws, continue working rhythmic issues in upper woodwinds
  • Disney Blockbusters, continue working the swing figures in Friend Like Me, increase accuracy and volume of upper woodwinds in Under the Sea, continue to work the transitional areas with better watching of the conductor
  • Navy Hymn, work the clarinet and trumpet soli spots at letter B, discuss the shaping and watching for expressions

MS Band

  • Continue Distributing Solos to Students
  • 5th Band work though EE pages 12-13 in full band
  • 6th Band work Scales Bb, Eb, F, Ab, Chromatic, Western Fantasy, Read new music
  • 7/8th Band work Scales C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, Chromatic, Forest Gump, Pink Panther, Jefferson County Overture

HS Band

  • John Williams in Concert, work Cantina and E.T. themes as well as section transitions and full runs of each section
  • Disney Blockbusters, work Under the Sea for proper articulations and speed with woodwinds, continue working transitions and the ending
  • Navy Hymn, perform full runs focusing on intonatino and brining out inner voice parts
  • Reherase Soul Man and possibly Gonna Fly Now of Pep Band
