Jan. 25-29 Happenings

MS Band
5th Grade
  • Continue learning Concert Bb Scale (Students look up fingerings at home)
  • Work through Essential Elements Pages 12-13
  • If we get through those pages we will look at some new sheet music for the Spring Concert

6th Grade

  • Continue working our Concert Bb, Eb, F, and Ab as well as Chromatic Scales in band
  • Look at new sections in Western Fantasy, identifying challenging rhythms and working on transitions between different parts of this piece
  • Continue reading through Forward March, with special attention being paid to the tried quarter note and eighth note rhythms in the piece

7/8th Grade

  • Continue working Concert C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, and D as well as Chromatic Scales, we will begin playing the scales with different rhythms
  • Work on The Pink Panther, focusing on the melody in the clarinets and the flute, as well as the swing section at the end
  • Work on Forest Gump, focusing on maintaing a good sound at the softer dynamic levels, and accurate counting in the percussion parts
  • Continue reading Jefferson County Overture, focusing on articulations
  • Possibly hand out some new music to read through

HS Band

  • Continue playing through all of the major scales
  • Attend Conference Honor Band on Thursday (Jan. 28) in Armstrong
  • Work on Soul Man and Gonna Fly now for pep band, focusing on rhythmic accuracy
  • John Williams, work on transition areas, continue focus on the Cantina Scene, work on dynamics in Jaws, continue working rhythmic issues in upper woodwinds
  • Disney Blockbusters, continue working the swing figures in Friend Like Me, increase accuracy and volume of upper woodwinds in Under the Sea, continue to work the transitional areas with better watching of the conductor
  • Navy Hymn, work the clarinet and trumpet soli spots at letter B, discuss the shaping and watching for expressions
