Middle School Bands

5th Band

Objectives:

• Finalize instrument choices
• Hold instrument Demo Night
• Establish final count for 5th Band
• Develop a beginning lesson schedule

6th Band

Objectives:

• Continue reading through pieces
• Begin looking for Winter Concert Music
• Continue rehearsing major scales

Warm-Up:

1. Play through EE Pg. 40 Concert Bb, Eb, F, and Ab #1, 2, and 3
2. Play Chromatic Scale

Music Rehearsal:

1. Apollo March
1. Work unison rhythms beginning in measure 5
2. Attempt a full run of the pieces without stopping
3. Work select areas as needed
2. The Sound and the Fury
1. Attempt a full read through
2. Work with saxes on counting and not over-playing with volume
3. Possibly distribute another piece

7/8th Band

Objectives:

• Continue reading through pieces
• Begin looking for Winter Concert Music
• Continue scale rehearsal
• Begin rehearsing on distributed pieces

Warm-Up:

1. Play through Concert Scales: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, and G
2. Play one major scale in a 3rds pattern
3. Play Chromatic Scale
4. Begin discussion of tuning and the procedure

Music Rehearsal:

1. Loch Lomond
1. Attempt a full read through
2. Begin working select sections and discuss layering of rhythms
3. Discuss and begin playing the 6/8 section
2. Faculty Vs. Band
1. Continue working rhythms and speed in the 1812 Overture section
2. Discuss and play at letter D in cut-time
3. Play through entire piece
3. Copper Mountain Legend
1. Continue rehearsing syncopated rhythms
2. Read through the second half of the piece
3. Identify any repeated sections or shared rhythms

High School Band

Objectives:

• Continue reading through pep band pieces
• Explain concert band format and expectations
• Begin distributing and reading through Fall Concert Music
• Continue rehearsing major scales

Warm-Up:

1. Play through all Major Concert Scales
2. Play one key in 3rds
3. Play one relative-minor scale
4. Play Chromatic Scale 3x’s

Music Rehearsal:

1. Build Me Up Buttercup
1. Rehearse key change to the end
2. Play through several times will full band
3. Continue to demonstrate proper swing eighth fell
2. Play that Funky Music
1. Finish distributing
2. Read through in sections
