April 1-5 Happenings

5th

This week we will only be having lessons and rehearsing with accompanists for solo contest.

Middle School


6th

Objectives:
  • Rehearse EE. Scales
  • Rehearse Concert Pieces
  • Solo Spotlight
  • Rehearse with accompanists
Warm-Up:
  • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, Ab #1, 2
  • Chromatic
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Espirit
    1. Begin identifying dynamic contrasts and articulations throughout
    2. Transition into and out of the slow middle section
    3. Isolate slow section
  2. Canticum
    1. Rehearse entire slow section and develop musical shaping
    2. Continue adding articulations and identify dynamic changes
    3. Continue performing full runs
  3. A Hero’s Return
    1. Reinforce counting in opening section and transition between intro and fast section
    2. Isolate counting at the ending
    3. Reinforce and isolate counting of low brass at fast sections
    4. Continue discussing dynamics
  4. Possibly distribute a new piece

        1. Discuss trade-off of drone at the beginning of Mvmt. II
        2. Stress importance of noting dynamics while playing
        3. Establish the accented feel
        4. Isolate percussion sections in Mvmt. II and identify mallet player
        5. Work Mvmt. II to Meas. 92

        1. Isolate opening for articulations
        2. Rehearse opening up to 2/4 change isolating dynamics and articulations
