Oct. 7-11 Happenings

5th

This week we will continue individual lessons focusing on the first five notes on pages 4 and 5. By the end of this week each student should be able to perform, with articulating, the first five notes on their instrument. Each child should begin memorizing the note names and placements in the music staff as well as the fingerings.

Middle School


6th

Objectives:
  • Rehearse major scales from EE Book
  • Rehearse concert pieces, focusing on rhythmic accuracy
Warm-Up:
  • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, Ab #1, 2
  • Chromatic
Music Rehearsal:
  1. The Year of the Dragon
    1. Rehearse transition between slow and fast sections
    2. Isolate sixteenth note passage in saxophones
    3. Rehearse rhythmic accuracy in closing measures and transition into this section
  2. A Celebration Overture
    1. Reinforce opening section, emphasizing crescendos and accents
    2. Establish balance within the percussion section
    3. Isolate middle 3/4 section
    4. Rehearse and assign solo passages in trumpet
  3. Falcon Fanfare
    1. Isolate passages with multiple accidentals
    2. Isolate moving clarinet passages
    3. Focus on middle section with upper woodwinds for note/rhythmic accuracy

  • Rehearse major scales
  • Rehearse concert pieces, focusing on rhythm and listening
Warm-Up:
  • Concert Major Scales: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D
  • 3rds
  • Chromatic
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Silver Star March
    1. Continue increasing performance tempo
    2. Focus on dynamic contrasts between sections
    3. Continue focusing on low brass for bass line melody section
  2. The Invincible Warrior
    1. Perform full runs
    2. Possibly collect
  3. At the Crossroads
    1. Reinforce upper woodwind counter line at the end
    2. Isolate percussion for balance
    3. Focus on rhythmic accuracy in first 1/3 of the piece
  4. Possibly distribute new piece

High School


Objectives:
  • Rehearse pieces for the Fall Concert
  • Continue concert program and publicity
Warm-Up:
  • Major Scales

Music Rehearsal:
    1. Torch of Liberty
      1. Perform full runs
      2. Isolate off-beat passages and rehearse
      3. Reinforce dynamic contrasts
      4. Refine march articulation style
    2. Crossings in Time
      1. Perform full runs
      2. Refine intonation within sections 
      3. Continue to challenge soft dynamic playing and delicate entrances
    3. The Old Castle
      1. Perform full runs
      2. Isolate opening measures with chimes
      3. Bring out solo passages, incorporate vibrato?
      4. Reinforce proper tempi and transitions
