April 21-25 Happenings

5th


Objectives:
  • Rehearse Spring Concert pieces
  • Rehearse full octave chromatic/full octave concert Bb major
Warm-Up:
  • Pg. 46-47 Chromatic Scale in quarter notes
  • Pg. 40 Bb #1,2, and 3
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Prelude and Allegro
    1. Discuss and rehearse transition between slow and fast section
    2. Develop proper balance among parts
  2. From a Distance
    1. Isolate melody and harmony sections with moving eighth notes
    2. Continue balance of voices in harmonized sections
  3. Joyful Rock 
    1. Reinforce syncopated tied rhythms and counting
    2. Begin defining melody vs. harmony and identify color notes
    3. Begin isolating upper woodwinds parts in complex counter-point section

Middle School


6th

Objectives:
  • Rehearse major scales from EE Book
  • Rehearse Spring Concert Music
Warm-Up:
  • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, Ab #1, 2
  • Chromatic
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Londonderry Ballad
    1. Reinforce proper pitches on moving chorale sections in brass
    2. Isolate trombones for entrances and proper pitch/intonation
    3. Begin working on hand-off between sections for smooth transitions
  2. Spirit of America March
    1. Isolate complex cut-time rhythms
    2. Continue working with low voices for rhythmic accuracy
    3. Continue developing dynamic contrast
  3. Into the Darkness
    1. Isolate ending measure for accuracy in clarinet
    2. Isolate clarinet and trumpet one for moving eighth note passages in fast section
    3. Begin reinforcing dynamic changes

High School

  • Find piece for seniors at graduation

Music Rehearsal:
    1. Washington Post March
      1. Isolate woodwinds for fast arpeggios
      2. Reinforce accented quarter notes in slurred passages to agree on style
      3. Continue developing dynamic contrast between sections, especially percussion
    2. On a Hymnsong of Lowell Mason
      1. Isolate alto sax and upper woodwind moving eighth note passages
      2. Reinforce soft entrances and areas of extreme dynamic contrast
    3. Flourish for Wind Band
      1. Reinforce the accentuation of moving voices as compared to sustained passages
      2. Develop marcato styling with winds
      3. Isolate snare for smooth rolls
    4. Possibly distribute potential Memorial Day pieces
