Nov. 22-26 Happenings

Middle School

5th Band


Objectives:

  • Rehearse EE Jingle Bells and When the Saints Go Marching In
  • Rehearse St. Nick on the Housetop
  • With remaining time continue on Pages 10-11


Warm-Up:

  1. Page 12 perform Tone and Rhythm Builders


Music Rehearsal:

  1. St. Nick on the Housetop
    1. Reinforce rest counting
    2. Perform in sections beginning Up on the Housetop
    3. Perform full runs
  2. Jingle Bells
    1. Perform full runs incorporating dynamics
  3. When the Saints Go Marching In
    1. Perform in sections isolating melody from bass line
    2. Perform full runs
  4. Begin rehearsing Pg. 10



6th Band


Objectives:

  • Continue rehearsing concert music
    • The Sound and the Fury
    • Christmas Decorations
    • Apollo March
  • Perform full runs of pieces, incorporate dynamics
  • Continue rehearsing Major Scales and Chromatic



Warm-Up:

  1. Play through EE Pg. 40 Concert Bb, Eb, F, and Ab #1, and 2
    1. Work articulations on number 2 and push tempos
      1. Work to make the second note of the slur short
    2. Play chromatic scale



Music Rehearsal:

    1. The Sound and the Fury
      1. Work with saxes to reinforce counting
      2. Reinforce dynamic contrast
      3. Increase tempo and perform full runs
    2. Christmas Decorations
      1. Rehearse trumpet run and off-beat entrance
      2. Incorporate dynamic contrast
      3. Perform full runs
    3. Apollo March
      1. Continue working with percussion for consistency
      2. Perform full runs reinforcing a steady tempo

7/8th Band


Objectives:

  • Continue scale rehearsal, goal of 4 minutes
  • Rehearse Winter Concert Music


Warm-Up:

  1. Play through Concert Scales: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, and G
    1. Continue playing scales in cut-time
  2. Play one major scale in a 3rds pattern
  3. Play Chromatic Scale
  4. Tune


Music Rehearsal:

  1. Copper Mountain Legend
    1. Refine articulations in unison ensemble rhythms
    2. Incorporate appropriate dynamics
    3. Perform full runs of the piece working to increase tempo
  2. A Still, Silent Night
    1. Rehearse at concert speed and avoid rushing
    2. Continue incorporating dynamics
    3. Perform full runs
  3. Deck the Halls With Old Composers
    1. Incorporate more dynamic contrast
    2. Identify melody sections
    3. Perform full runs
  4. Begin Looking for Pops Concert Pieces

    1. Rehearse clarinets and alto sax melody between D and E
    2. Work with trumpets on the slur at C
    3. Rehearse clarinets and flutes at A

  2. Russian Christmas Music
    1. Rehearse from beginning working on appropriate dynamic shaping
    2. Rehearse 56 to 64 reinforcing proper entrances
    3. Rehearse last 6 measures and transition between 74 and 80
    4. Isolate trumpets and tenor saxes at the end
    5. Discuss grace notes in clarinets and flutes for last note
  3. In the Christmas Mood
    1. Work with trumpets at the two straight-eighth note sections
    2. Perform full sections identifying articulation patterns
    3. Begin performing full runs to establish flow
