Jan. 16-20 Happenings

5th Band

Objectives:

  • Continue weekly lessons
  • Reinforce class expectations and procedures
  • Continue working from EE
  • End of Quarter 2
  1. Begin on EE Pg. 11
    • Tone Builder and Rhythm Etude on Pg. 11
    • Begin playing on EE Pg. 11 with full band pieces
    • Set goal for first full band piece for next week
Middle School Band

6th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working on scales
  • Distribute and read new pieces
  1. Warm-Up
    • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, and Ab #1 and 2
    • Chromatic Scale
  2. Music Rehearsal
    • Apollo March
      • Begin incorporating dynamics and articulations
      • Perform full runs
    • Night at the Symphony
      • Begin incorporating dynamics and articulations
      • Perform full runs
    • Starship One
      • Explain fp cresc. and perform full runs
    • Possibly distribute a new piece

7/8th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working scales
  • Distribute and begin reading new pieces
  1. Warm-up
    • Concert Scales: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D
    • 3rds in a selected key
    • Chromatic scale
  2. Music Rehearsal
    • Wizard of Oz
      • Continue rehearsal in sections
      • Isolate 6/8 sections and identify counting
      • Isolate transitions between songs and time signature especially
    • Grease
      • Continue rehearsing in sections
        • Isolate 12/8 and reinforce counting and feel
        • Begin incorporating articulations and dynamics into select tunes
High School Band

Objectives:

  • Continue working on Scales
  • Continue rehearsal for Pops Concert

    • Concert Major Scales
    • 3rds
    • Chromatic
    • Relative Natural Minor Key
    • Bach Chorale (TBA)
  1. Music Rehearsal
    • Phantom of the Opera
      • Isolate chromatic passages in upper woodwinds
      • Isolate transitions and incorporate dynamics and proper balance within and between sections
    • Wicked
      • Rehearse in sections
      • Isolate percussion areas and large ensemble syncopation
    • Lion King
      • Rehearse in sections
        • Isolate percussion in final piece
      • Continue to work with sections in areas with swing feel to properly interpret swing eighths
