Jan. 30-Feb. 3 Happenings

5th Grade Band

Objectives:

  • Continue weekly lessons
  • Reinforce class expectations and procedures
  • Finish working from EE
  • Distribute full page pieces and begin rehearsal
  1. Begin on EE Pg. 13
    • Tone Builder and Rhythm Etude on Pg. 12
    • Begin playing on EE Pg. 13 with Ode to Joy and continue moving forward with other two full band songs
    • Distribute Let’s Rock and Basses are Aces and begin rehearsing
Middle School

6th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working on scales
  • Rehearse pieces
  • Possibly distribute new piece
  1. Warm-Up
    • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, and Ab #1 and 2
    • Chromatic Scale
  2. Music Rehearsal
    • Apollo March
      • Perform full runs and reinforce counting and dynamics
    • Night at the Symphony
      • Continue incorporating dynamics and articulations
      • Perform full runs
    • Starship One
      • Reinforce fp cres. and perform full runs
    • Fun with Chopsticks
      • Begin working on each variation individually
    • Distribute a new piece, read through, and begin rehearsing

7/8th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working scales
  • Rehearse Pops Concert Pieces
  1. Warm-up
    • Concert Scales: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D
    • 3rds in a selected key
    • Chromatic scale
  2. Music Rehearsal
    • Wizard of Oz
      • Isolate 6/8 sections and reinforce counting
      • Isolate transitions between songs and time signature especially
      • Work with percussion and trombone to correct 6/8 counting
    • Grease
      • Continue rehearsing in sections
        • Isolate 12/8 and reinforce counting and feel
        • Isolate Grease Lightning to correct rhythms and isolate new parts at the key change
        • Continue incorporating articulations and dynamics into select tunes
        • Begin working on transitions
High School

Objectives:

  • Continue working on Scales
  • Continue rehearsal for Pops Concert
  • Compile list of interest for Solo/Ensemble
  1. Warm-Up
    • Concert Major Scales
    • 3rds

    • Relative Natural Minor Key
    • Bach Chorale (TBA)
  1. Music Rehearsal
    • Phantom of the Opera
      • Isolate transitions
      • Correct rhythms in trumpet section on melody passages
      • Reinforce proper shaping and tempi throughout
    • Lion King
      • Rehearse in sections
        • Isolate percussion in final piece
        • Begin incorporating articulations in sections
      • Continue to work with sections in areas with swing feel to properly interpret swing eighths
      • Discuss shaping of long notes throughout
    • Collect Wicked
    • Phillip Bliss
      • Work with brass on a full sustained sound throughout forte section
      • Correct pitches in opening woodwind sections and incorporate shaping
    • Fate of the Gods
      • Isolate upper woodwind rhythmic passages in the beginning and work them in both keys
