Jan. 21-25 Happenings

5th


Objectives:
  • Continue working on Chromatic
  • Rehearse from EE
  • Possibly distribute sheet music pieces
  • Begin work on Concert Bb Scale on EE Pg. 28
Warm-Up:
  1. Pg. 12 Tone Builder/Rhythm Etude
  2. Chromatic Scale (extend to full octave)
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Pg. 12-13 Rehearse full band selections
    1. Begin with When the Saints Go Marching In

Middle School


6th

Objectives:
  • Rehearse EE. Scales
  • Rehearse Concert Pieces
Warm-Up:
  • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, Ab #1, 2
  • Chromatic
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Espirit
    1. Work moving eighth passages to develop more speed
    2. Reinforce proper rest counting in percussion 
  2. Canticum
    1. Work opening section to develop more speed 
    2. Rehearse backgrounds at beginning and correct cut-off points
    3. Rehearse transition into 3/4 and entire 3/4 section
  3. A Hero’s Return
    1. Read through and begin rehearsing in sections

  • Rehearse major scales
  • Rehearse Concert Pieces
Warm-Up:
  • Concert Major Scales: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D
  • 3rds

Music Rehearsal:
  1. Y.M.C.A
    1. Isolate drumset part for accuracy
    2. Work with upper woodwinds to correct background figures
    3. Work to bring out melody throughout
  2. Achillie’s Wrath
    1. Isolate opening solo section to reinforce proper rhythmic counting
    2. Possibly collect back to hold for combined piece in Spring
  3. Baby Elephant Walk
    1. Read through in sections
    2. Begin to rehearse grace-note passages in melody and backgrounds

High School


Objectives:
  • Rehearse Assorted Key Signatures
  • Rehearse Pops Concert Pieces
Warm-Up:
  • Major Scales
  • 3rds in given key
  • Chromatic
  • Bach Chorale 
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Les Miserables
    1. Isolate arpeggios in opening section
    2. Isolate triplet figures in final section
    3. Reinforce 6/8 percussion parts
  2. Ye Banks and Braes
    1. Percussion can rehearse ensemble during wind rehearsal
    2. Identify like moving parts throughout and develop listening strategy
    3. Begin to incorporate dynamic shaping and balance 
  3. Chorale and Shaker Dance
    1. Re-read and listen to recording
    2. Begin rehearsing in sections
