5th

Objectives:
  • Introduce and begin performing eighth notes
  • Select a full page piece for the winter concert
Warm-Up:
  1. EE Pg. 6 Notes in Review, adding concert G
  2. Perform in quarter notes and eighth notes
Music Rehearsal:

  1. EE Pg. 9 Begin by reviewing pick-up note concept and perform 36, 38, 39
  2. EE Pg. 10 
    1. Identify eighth notes and explain counting
    2. Begin performing exercises on Pg. 10
    3. Set goal to play all of Pg. 10 and 11

6th Grade

Objectives:
  • Improve rhythmic execution of Winter Concert Pieces
  • Perform full runs of all pieces
Warm-Up:
  1. EE Pg. 40 #1, 2 in all four keys
  2. Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Andromeda Overture
    1. Continue to isolate trombones for rhythmic accuracy
    2. Isolate passage with tied rhythms before B section begins
    3. Reinforce proper interpretation of the form, identifying the sign and coda transitions
    4. Isolate passage with syncopated snare drum rolls
  2. March Zuma
    1. Reinforce the trumpet and trombone melody in the second strain
    2. Begin incorporating dynamic changes within sections
    3. Isolate percussion part for accuracy
  3. Christmas Sleigh Ride
    1. Isolate clarinets for rhythmic accuracy, especially in clarinet 2
    2. Begin performing full runs
    3. Reinforce dynamic changes throughout
7/8th Grade

Warm-Up:
  1. Two selected major scales
  2. Perform 3rds in an additional key
  3. One Octave Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:

  1. Roswell 1947
    1. Refine contrasting drag triplet passage for rhythmic accuracy
    2. Rehearse closing section to develop speed and increase percussion accuracy
    3. Reinforce the cut in the middle section
  2. Do You Hear What I Hear
    1. Continue to develop balance among voices throughout
    2. Isolate sections for dynamic contrast
    3. Perform full runs
  3. Le Sabre
    1. Isolate trumpets in muted section
    2. Work to reinforce and bring out trombone and baritone in the final strain

    1. Isolate upper woodwinds in moving sixteenth passages to develop speed
    2. Continue to rehearse sections with contrasting dynamics to avoid tempo changes
    3. Continue to develop proper accented march style
  2. Russian Christmas Music
    1. Isolate closing section with off-beat woodwinds and swelling brass for proper balance among brass and to maintain rhythmic accuracy among woodwinds
    2. Rehearse sections through transitions to develop smooth transitions
    3. Isolate areas with soft entrances

    1. Continue working to develop proper balance among all voices at various dynamics
    2. Isolate clarinets to refine intonation
