Oct. 24-28 Happenings

Wish the 5th Grade Band Students luck this week as we begin our first days of full band. After several weeks of working in small groups we are ready to put things all together for the first time. Parents, please make sure your student brings their instrument and book on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from this point forward.

Middle School

5th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue weekly lessons
  • Begin full band
  • Outline class expectations and procedures

6th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working on scales
  • Rehearse concert music
  1. Warm-Up
    • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, and Ab #1 and 2
    • Chromatic Scale
  2. Music Rehearsal
    • Wipeout
      • Discuss use of accents in the percussion part
      • Isolate section with trombone melody
      • Continue increasing speed
    • Dark Adventure
      • Continue rehearsing in sections
      • Identify, discuss, and incorporate dynamics throughout
      • Isolate and clap problem rhythms
      • Isolate tempo changes
    • Penguines on Parade
      • Perform full runs
      • Begin incorporating dynamics
    • Little Drummer Boy
      • Continue rehearsing in sections, identifying difference between measures beginning on 1 and 2
      • Reinforce counting and performance of triplets


7/8th Grade Band


Objectives:

    • Episode for Band
      • Continue incorporating dynamics and articulations
      • Isolate sections with rit. or tempo changes
        • reinforce proper tempi
    • Ceremony, Chant and Ritual
      • Isolate opening section and correct rhythms
      • Begin correcting eighth and sixteenth note runs
      • Discuss dynamics and articulations such as accents and fp
    • O Come, All Ye Faithful
      • Continue working on upper woodwind passages

High School

Objectives:

  • Continue work on Scales
  • Continue working Veteran’s Day Music
  • Begin deciding on music for Winter Concert

      • Isolate transitional section and correct entrances and rhythms

        • Bring out melody and back off on supporting lines

      • Continue interpreting conducting gestures
