Nov. 7-11 Happenings

Reminder that the high school band students will begin a fundraiser on Monday November 14 for their upcoming trip in 2013. Please support these young people as they raise money for their trip accounts.

5th Grade

Objectives:

  • Continue weekly lessons
  • Reinforce class expectations and procedures
  • Continue working through EE Exercises
  • Begin checking practice
  1. Begin on EE Pg. 6
    • Play Notes in Review (Quarter and Eighth Notes)
    • Quiz Students over note names and values
    • Continue playing forward in EE beginning with #18
    • Discuss counting and playing whole notes and rests
      • Practice by clapping rhythms before playing
    • Refresh on key and time signatures
    • Set goal to get to #39 and 39 before Thanksgiving Break
Middle School

6th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working on scales
  • Rehearse concert music
  1. Warm-Up
    • EE Pg. 40 Bb, Eb, F, and Ab #1 and 2
    • Chromatic Scale
  2. Music Rehearsal
    • Wipeout
      • Discuss use of accents in the percussion part
      • Isolate section with trombone melody
      • Continue increasing speed
      • Perform full runs
    • Dark Adventure
      • Reinforce sax melody at 41
      • Identify, discuss, and incorporate dynamics throughout
      • Perform full runs

      • Continue rehearsing in sections, identifying difference between measures beginning on beat 1 and 2

7/8th Grade Band

        • reinforce proper tempi
    • Ceremony, Chant and Ritual
      • Isolate opening section and correct rhythms
      • Begin correcting eighth and sixteenth note runs
      • Discuss dynamics and articulations such as accents and fp

      • Continue working on upper woodwind passages

High School
