Feb. 6-10 Happenings

5th Band

Objectives:

  • Continue weekly lessons
  • Begin rehearsal of full page songs
  • Begin working on full Concert Bb and Chromatic Scales
  1. Begin on EE Pg. 12
    • Tone Builder and Rhythm Etude on Pg. 12
    • Pg. 28 EE Bb Scale
      • Have students look up new notes and fingerings
      • Work with clarinets on the register key
      • Play through and assign work on this
      • Begin work on Chromatic for first few notes
    • Let’s Rock
      • Perform full run
      • Begin working in sections isolating mostly counting between sections and separate entrances
    • Basses are Aces
      • Distribute once Let’s Rock is down
      • Read through and begin rehearsal in sections as needed
Middle School

6th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working on scales
  • Rehearse pieces
  • Possibly distribute new piece
  • Select Solos in lessons

      • Perform full runs and reinforce counting and dynamics

      • Reinforce fp cres. and perform full runs

      • Continue work on the variations and rehearse playing through with variations

7/8th Grade Band


Objectives:

  • Continue working scales
  • Rehearse Pops Concert Pieces provide timeline until concert
  • Distribute Great Locomotive Chase
  • Select solos in lessons
  1. Warm-up
    • Concert Scales: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D
    • 3rds in a selected key
    • Chromatic scale
  2. Music Rehearsal
    • Wizard of Oz
      • Isolate transitions between songs and time signature especially
      • Work with trombone on short solo section
      • Begin adding articulations and reinforcing dynamics throughout
    • Grease
      • Continue rehearsing in sections
        • Isolate 12/8 and reinforce counting and feel
        • Isolate Grease Lightning to correct rhythms in melody
        • Reinforce proper rhythms after key change in Grease Lightning
        • Continue incorporating articulations and dynamics into select tunes
        • Continue working on transitions
      • Great Locomotive Chase
        • Distribute and read through
        • Begin rehearsing in sections
High School

Objectives:

  • Continue working on Scales
  • Continue rehearsal for Pops Concert
  • Compile list of interest for Solo/Ensemble and select pieces for students
  • Begin pit rehearsals on Sunday in Terril

      • Correct pitches in opening woodwind sections and incorporate shaping

      • Continue upper woodwind rhythmic passages in the beginning and work them in both keys
      • Isolate low brass chords and rhythms in opening measures
      • Begin working on 3/4 sections
