Feb. 4-8 Happenings

5th


Objectives:
  • Continue working on Chromatic
  • Distribute sheet music pieces
  • Begin work on Concert Bb Scale on EE Pg. 28
Warm-Up:
  1. Pg. 12 Tone Builder/Rhythm Etude
  2. Chromatic Scale 
  3. Pg. 28 #147 Concert Bb
    1. Begin by identifying new notes in all instruments
      1. Assign students to look up the notes in the fingering chart
    2. Review Key Signatures and new notes
    3. Perform full scale
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Camptown Races
    1. Review dotted-quarter and eighth note rhythm
    2. Discuss items to look at when playing a new piece, (Key and Time)
    3. Rehearse with like parts
  2. BB Rock
    1. Discuss eighth note dotted-quarter rhythm and compare to other variation
    2. Identify articulations and demonstrate
    3. Begin playing in sections and break down with like parts
Middle School

Music Rehearsal:

    1. Work moving eighth passages to develop more speed
    2. Reinforce proper rest counting in percussion 
    3. Begin identifying dynamic contrasts and articulations throughout
  2. Canticum
    1. Work opening section to develop more speed 
    2. Rehearse transition into 3/4
    3. Rehearse entire slow section and develop musical shaping
    4. Begin adding articulations

    1. Rehearse eighth note passage at tempo change in woodwinds
    2. Reinforce eighth note sixteenth note combinations for counting and performance throughout piece
    3. Rehearse like parts throughout

    1. Isolate opening solo section to reinforce proper rhythmic counting
    2. Isolate 3/4 section
    3. Isolate sixteenth note runs

    1. Isolate introduction and correct entrances and rhythms in woodwinds
    2. Begin to rehearse grace-note passages in melody
    3. Isolate bari sax and trombone melody passages
    4. Discuss proper counting of rests and identifying entrance points
High School

        1. Isolate arpeggios in opening section and bring out low voices
        2. Isolate triplet figures in final section
        3. Begin developing shaping of phrases
        4. Rehearse transitions to correct tempo and style changes

        1. Percussion can rehearse ensemble during wind rehearsal
        2. Discuss the story of the piece
        3. Identify like moving parts throughout and develop listening strategy
        4. Begin to incorporate dynamic shaping and balance 
      3. Chorale and Shaker Dance
        1. Isolate beginning to letter I 
        2. Have woodwinds look into arpeggios at letter I 
        3. Reinforce syncopated entrances at E for accuracy 
        4. Move Brandon to Snare and Austin to Timpani
