Objectives:
  • Finish full band selections
  • Distribute first full band piece
Warm-Up:
  1. EE Pg. 12 Tone Builder and Rhythm Etude
  2. Rehearse Chromatic Scale from Concert Bb to Concert F
  3. Introduce Bb Major Scale on Pg. 28
Music Rehearsal:

  1. EE Pg. 12 begin selections

  2. Distribute and read new piece
    1. Discuss sight-reading techniques

6th Grade

Objectives:
  • Rehearse Pieces, focusing on dynamics
Warm-Up:
  1. EE Pg. 40 #1, 2 in all four keys
  2. Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:
  1. March Zuma
    1. Begin identifying dynamic changes and rehearse
    2. Identify, discuss, and incorporate articulations throughout
  2. Robert Smith Piece
    1. Begin working to increase tempo on first half
    2. Isolate new material in second half 
    3. Work to develop proper articulation style for fast playing
  3. Distribute and read new piece
    1. Discuss sight-reading techniques
7/8th Grade

Objectives:
  • Rehearse Pops Music
Warm-Up:
  1. Two selected major scales
  2. Perform 3rds in an additional key
  3. One Octave Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:

  1. Superman Theme
    1. Rehearse 4/4 section for rhythmic accuracy
      1. focusing on dotted eighth-sixteenth rhythms
    2. Listen to recording of original
    3. Rehearse transition into and out of 4/4 from 6/8
  2. Defying Gravity
    1. Continue to reinforce syncopated passages from previous rehearsals
    2. Isolate short passages of melody for rhythmic accuracy
    3. Begin to work from the end back in short passages
    4. Work to encourage finding syncopation individually in parts

Warm-Up:

  3. One Octave Bb Chromatic Scale

Music Rehearsal:

  1. Mary Poppins
    1. Begin with cut-time opening section
      1. Isolate areas with rhythmic issues
    2. Isolate the moving sixteenth passage at the end/closing section
  2. Mission Impossible Theme
    1. Rehearse, working to increase the tempo

    1. Isolate rhythmic sections in “Come Fly With Me”
    2. Discuss the importance of matching and listening for articulation
