Feb. 23-27 Happenings

5th

Objectives:
  • Rehearse full band pieces, moving to two
  • Rehearse Concert Bb Scale
  • Solo Selection
Warm-Up:
  1. Bb Major Scale on Pg. 28 #147
  2. Rehearse Full Chromatic Scale from Concert Bb to Concert Bb
    1. Quarter notes 
Music Rehearsal:

  1. March Winds
    1. Isolate the faster snare section with Josh and others for ensemble hits
    2. Begin developing a sense of balance among voices
    3. Perform full run

Objectives:
  • Rehearse Pieces, focusing on dynamics
  • Work to develop move visual communication between ensemble and director
Warm-Up:
  1. EE Pg. 40 #1, 2 in all four keys
  2. Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Danse Jubliante
    1. Isolate slow passage for more together changing on ensemble rhythms
    2. Work to balance chordal sections among all voices
    3. Perform full runs
  2. Bay Town Festival
    1. Rehearse trombone and timbale section
    2. Discuss proper balance between voices
    3. Begin performing full runs
  3. Chant and Tribal Dance
    1. reinforce tied eighth note rhythms
    2. continue working to incorporate accents into performances
    3. Rehearse the layering of voices, working toward balance
7/8th Grade

Objectives:
  • Rehearse Pops Music
Warm-Up:
  1. Two selected major scales
  2. Perform 3rds in an additional key
  3. One Octave Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:

  1. Superman Theme
    1. Continue playing full runs to steady the tempo
    2. Work to increase contrast between middle section and march sections
    3. Reinforce accents throughout
  2. Defying Gravity
    1. Reinforce the short fast passages in the trombone and horn that occur every four measures for rhythmic and note accuracy
    2. Continue to reinforce the last four measures in the flute and clarinet
    3. Perform full runs, working to control dynamic
  3. Tomorrow
    1. Perform full runs working on balance among voices 
    2. Work to increase watching for shaping of lines throughout piece
    3. Continue to incorporate the written articulations

Objectives:

  • Look for Fine Arts Program
Warm-Up:
  1. Two selected major scales
  2. Relative minor and 3rds in selected keys
  3. One Octave Bb Chromatic Scale
  4. Selected Bach Chorale
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Mary Poppins
    1. Isolate the transition into “Step In Time” for pitch accuracy
    2. Isolate the counter-line in “Spoonful of Sugar” in upper woodwinds
    3. Perform full runs to build endurance
  1. Sinatra!
    1. Perform each selection in it’s entirety working to clean ensemble rhythms and articulations
      1. Encourage marking of music!
      2. Reinforce listening across the section and band in unison passages
    2. Isolate each transition independently to solidify new tempi and transitional rhythms
