Mar. 9-13 Happenings

This week our 7-12th grade instrumentalists will be performing at our annual Pops Concert. This year they will present a variety of music from the "American Songbook." All of the works featured were written by American Composers. The program will begin at 7:00 in the Graettinger Gym.

5th

Objectives:
  • Rehearse full band pieces, begin working toward dotted quarter note rhythms
  • Rehearse solos in lessons
Warm-Up:
  1. Bb Major Scale on Pg. 28 #147
  2. Rehearse Full Chromatic Scale from Concert Bb to Concert Bb
    1. Quarter notes 
Music Rehearsal:

  1. The Lost City
    1. Isolate individual parts in independent areas
    2. Rehearse entrances and accurate rest counting between playing sections
    3. Set goal to play a full run in another week
  2. Camptown Races
    1. Distribute and read through
    2. Isolate dotted quarter-note eighth note rhythm
    3. Begin rehearsing in sections
MS

6th Grade

Objectives:
  • Rehearse Pieces, focusing on dynamics and articulations
  • Work to develop move visual communication between ensemble and director
Warm-Up:
  1. EE Pg. 40 #1, 2 in all four keys
  2. Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:
  1. Bay Town Festival
    1. Rehearse trombone and timbale section
    2. Isolate short crescendo/decrescendo sections
    3. Perform full runs
  2. Chant and Tribal Dance
    1. continue working to incorporate accents into performances
    2. Rehearse rhythmic accuracy in full-ensemble sections, specifically holding long notes full value
    3. Perform full runs
  3. Korean Folk Rhapsody
    1. Distribute and read through in sections
    2. Identify melody throughout the piece and have different sections perform it
    3. Continue listening for pentatonic passages
7/8th Grade

Objectives:
  • Pops Concert
Warm-Up:
  1. Two selected major scales
  2. Perform 3rds in an additional key
  3. One Octave Bb Chromatic Scale
Music Rehearsal:

  1. Superman Theme
    1. Rehearse transition into legato middle section, making sure clarinet entrance is correct
    2. Perform full runs continuing to develop accented style
  2. Defying Gravity
    1. Reinforce the syncopated passages in the low voices throughout
    2. Continue to reinforce the last four measures in the flute and clarinet
    3. Perform full runs
  3. Tomorrow
    1. Perform full runs working on balance among voices
